Real Brides Reveal – One Bridal Purchase Every Bride-To-Be Should Make When It Comes To Her Trousseau!

BY Apoorva | 26 May, 2022 | 3293 views | 3 min read

Traditionally a bridal trousseau would just be a bag of new items that a bride would carry from her maternal home to her married home. But it has evolved and how! Your bridal trousseau now is a carefully curated collection of clothes, jewellery, accessories and even skincare and makeup as you begin your new life. So picking the right mix is important, which is why we asked our experts – real brides - what they would recommend as a must-do bridal purchase for a bridal trousseau. And this is what they told us!

I would recommend getting a classic style and colour outfits that you can mix and match for the endless line of post-wedding events. I ended up buying so many trendy pieces like heavy kaftan style tops and cold-shoulder kurtas which I no longer like or wear. So investing in classic suits like a Pakistani style suit, a anarkali or angrakha style kurta, a few printed ones is something I recommend.

One bridal purchase every bride-to-be should make when it comes to her trousseau is simple jewellery for me. I invested in 18ct pieces that I can wear at small events and even work which does not cost a lot but looks like the real deal. This way I could style it with various outfits without having to worry about what my in-laws will think if I wear fake jewellery. So this is one purchase I recommend as a new bride.

A really good makeup kit. Even if you are not into makeup you need a basic kit that will help you look presentable. Your wedding is the only time we don’t think so much about budgets and all so go to good makeup brands and create a small makeup kit for yourself. Nykaa is a great store to go as they have multiple brands under one store.

Invest in accessories than clothes. Shoes, bags, jewellery, sunglasses. They last longer, are used multiple times and fit no matter how much weight you drop or add on which I love!

I would say blouses. Get a few multi-purpose blouses that you can wear with multiple sarees or even lehengas. Get a brocade and benarasi one. Maybe one sheer gold style that you can wear with cocktail sarees. One basic black and one basic gold. Try and get different necklines like boat neck, plunge neck or even different sleeve styles.

Lingerie! It’s important that most brides don’t invest in. Buy the fancy ones but also buy good support nude and black bras with comfortable cotton panties that you can stay in all day. Get yourself a body shaper or a tummy tucker if you get self-conscious. Buy a few good strapless and halter neck bras too. Good lingerie is so underrated I feel that I want to tell every bride to be that invest in good quality rather than design.

I would say sarees and ethnic dresses. Sarees because they are timeless and even your mom and sisters can borrow so more use. Ethnic dresses can also be used and styled the way you like with traditional jewellery or also for non-traditional events.
